PCL has launched a pilot programme utilising Rapid Health, a smart triage and booking system which improves patient access, manages patient demand and maximises clinical capacity within general practice. The pilot will run across a number of GP practices for one year, with the aim of avoiding the “8.00 am appointment rush” by introducing the fully NHS-approved smart triage tool. The first practice to launch the new system is Humberstone Medical Centre, which went live with Rapid Health on October 15th. Within the first 10 days, the practice reported patients finding the system useful, appreciating the ability to book their own appointments online. The number of phone calls received by the practice has declined. 89% of appointments were automatically allocated to an appropriate clinician without any staff/clinical intervention. Overall the staff and patients have found the system easy to use and although early days, initial impressions are that Rapid Health is already delivering significant benefits for both the practice and patients. We look forward to be being able to report further positive findings as the pilot continues.
