Primary Care+ Services

Here are details of just a few of the Primary Care+ Services which PCL has facilitate through shareholding practices.

Breast Pain Service

A Breast Pain service was set up as a pilot in January 2022. Since the service launched up to March 2023, the programme has seen over 680 women.  There are currently three locations across LLR who provide the service.  The year-long tilt has now been extended so that it can be reviewed by independent auditors, Edge Health.  The purpose of the audit is to assess the impact on the 2 Week Wait department, outcomes of referral and treatment and also the overall patient care journey.  It is hoped that positive evaluation of the programme’s effectiveness and cost efficiency will result in the service continuing post pilot.Breasrt

MSK One Stop Shop

The LLR MSK Hub was launched in February 2022 and continues to grow.  The Hub now hosts three specialist clinicians across three sites, covering Leicester City, East and West. Since launch and up to the end of March 2023, the programme has seen over 1.300 patients choosing to attend the the Hub at a site closer to home and offering a shorter appointment waiting time (than would be available in the local trust).  Very few of these patients required onward referral.  This service was one of the first in LLR to enable two-way ICE Radiology communication via SystemOne Community Services units, ensure the utmost safety for patient results.

Anticoagulation Services

From 1st July 2022, PCL because the lead provider for the Anticoagulation ambulatory service for Leicester City and East practices.  From October 2022, it became the lead provider for Anticoagulation Housebound within Leicester City.  PCL now manages 773 Anticoagulation sub-contracts on behalf of the LLR ICB.

Acuter Respiratory Infection Hubs

Following NHSE Guidance and funding, PCL supported the set-up of 7 ARI Hubs across LLR between 16th January – 31st March, 2023.  The ARI Hubs provided a same-day service for both children and adults suffering with an acute respiratory illness/complaint.  The ARI Hubs received great patient satisfaction feedback, with a total of 6,131 patients accessing the service and only 99 patients (1.6%) being onward referred.

What we do

Our aim is to provide the right care at the right time, in the right place.

We term this healthcare “PrimaryCare+ Services”.  These are low-risk patient procedures which were previously carried out in a hospital setting but which can now be safely undertaken by GPs within practice.  The PCL system is able to bring specialist healthcare directly to patients within their own community.  This relieves pressure on our hospitals and provides patient care in a setting which is more familiar and more convenient.

PrimaryCare+ Services currently available are:

  • Breast Pain Service
  • Cataract Surgery
  • Circumcision
  • Dermatology
  • Echocardiography
  • ENT
  • Hernia
  • Minor Hand Surgery
  • MSK
  • Non Obstetric Ultrasound
  • Vasectomy
  • Optometry
  • Pain Management
  • Triage
  • Referral Support Service
  • H Pylori Breath Tests

In addition, LLR PCL is a dynamic partner in the LLR COVID Vaccination Programme.  We provide end-to-end vaccination site management throughout LLR: administration, volunteer manning, pop-up clinics in bespoke locations, logistics and vaccine management.

We are committed to improving integrated relationships with other providers of care.  These come from a number of sources, including primary care, secondary care and the independent sector.  When required, we also look to work collaboratively with other agencies, such as Local Authorities.

LLR PCL is committed to improving healthcare for the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.  Patient satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do.  Our goal is to always positively enhance the patient experience, meeting their needs within a local setting.
